We pair planting and tending to gardens with poetry and hip hop in this 10 to 12-week program which gives young people a metaphor for individual growth, healing, and transformation within a communal ecosystem. With the consistent practice of cultivating nature, Poetry & Gardening serves as a mirror where youth nurture the garden and themselves. Youth participants connect with their families through shared stories of food, heritage, and grit. Through stewardship, they learn patience, responsibility, and the importance of investing in their community as they nourish soil and bloom. Through writing and performing poetry, youth unlock their personal stories and express emotions in healthy, transformative ways. In this program, students plant seeds of hope, self-worth, and a deeper connection to who they are.
